Leadership Grows in Louisiana Boys and Girls State Participants

Ascension Episcopal School
Demonstrating leadership, character, scholarship, loyalty, and service at Ascension, four outstanding Ascension students embarked on a week-long journey exploring leadership and citizenship through a state and local government lens.

Collin Cloud
Linden Musso
Gabriela Del Toro
Caroline Ortemond
Linden, Gabriela, and Caroline participated in Louisiana Girls State. “ALA Louisiana Girls State is a unique and exciting government-in-action learning program in which the American Legion Auxiliary guides young women to become knowledgeable stewards of freedom, democracy, and patriotism. At Girls State, participants are called “citizens" who establish their own city, parish, and state government.”

Collin participated in Louisiana Boys State. “Louisiana Boys State is a leadership development program sponsored by the Louisiana Department of the American Legion. Founded in 1940, Boys State maintains a reputation as the premiere leadership development program for young men in the state. It cultivates personal growth, civic involvement, and practical governance knowledge in its participants to help build stronger, more well-informed, and influential leaders for our communities, our state, and our country.

Both groups experienced governmental procedures by simulating political campaigns, elections, and political processes. They also learned about citizenship and public service principles from guest speakers, elected officials, expert panels, and experienced counselors.

Congratulations, and a big thank you to these Blue Gators for their commitment to our community, servant hearts, and brave leadership!
