Ascension Episcopal advances to soccer state finals for first time in school history
The Acadiana Advocate
The past few seasons it has felt like it was only a matter of time before the Ascension Episcopal boys soccer team broke through and reached the finals.
And that time is now.
After losing in the semifinals a year ago — their third time in the past four seasons — the Blue Gators punched their ticket to the Division IV title game by shutting out third-seeded Northlake Christian 4-0 Friday.
“We are super proud of the guys,” Blue Gators coach Ricardo Calliman said. “We leave the celebration for the kids, and we want them to enjoy this moment. But as coaches, we know that the job is not finished.”
It’s the first time the Blue Gators, who are 18-3-2, have reached the state finals in boys soccer.
