Four Ascension Students Honored in Lafayette Public Library’s Writes of Spring Competition

Ascension Episcopal School is proud to announce that four of its talented students have placed in the 2025 Writes of Spring writing competition hosted by the Lafayette Public Library. This annual contest celebrates creative writing and literary excellence among students across Acadiana, and Ascension’s young authors have once again distinguished themselves with compelling original fiction.
In this year’s competition, Ascension students earned top honors across multiple grade levels:
Jean-Luc Soileau (5th-6th Grade) — 1st Place, Fiction Title: Let the Moonshine Teacher: Sue Pottle
Martha Odom (11th-12th Grade) — 1st Place, Fiction Title: Between the Lines Teacher: Shome Dasgupta
Graycen Daly (9th-10th Grade) — 2nd Place, Fiction Title: Echoes of the Unseen Teacher: Shome Dasgupta
“We are incredibly proud of these students,” said Liz Tremblay, Lower & Middle School Division Head at Ascension Episcopal School. “Their creativity, dedication to the craft of writing, and willingness to explore big ideas through storytelling are inspiring. We also want to celebrate our dedicated faculty members, whose guidance and encouragement help nurture this kind of literary excellence.”
The Writes of Spring competition is a beloved tradition in the Lafayette community, providing a platform for young writers to showcase their voices and connect with readers.
