Archbishop and former Secretary-General for 85 million Anglicans visits local school

Ascension Episcopal School
LAFAYETTE, LA - April 30, 2024 - On Monday, Archbishop Josiah Idowu-Fearon, former Secretary-General of the Anglican Communion, visited Ascension Episcopal School to share a message of God’s love for all nations and peoples with students in grades PK3 to 12.  Archbishop Josiah worked closely with the Archbishop of Canterbury and Anglicans worldwide as the second most senior bishop in Anglicanism.
“He has a joyful and hopeful spirit that touches everyone he meets,” says Vice Rector of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, Jordan Hylden, “in addition to being a man of deep faith, immense experience, and great learning.”  He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology, with advanced degrees in Arabic, Theology, and Christian-Muslim relations. From an early age, as he grew up in Nigeria, he knew that he was called to be a bridge-builder and a witness for Christ, and he has been so in many ways.  Rev’d Hylden continues, “There are few figures in the Anglican Communion that command as much respect and affection as Archbishop Josiah, which led him to be entrusted with the position of Secretary-General for the world's 85 million Anglicans.”

The Archbishop's message to students was powerful and timely, reminding us that as followers of Jesus, we are all one in Christ, and discrimination has no place in our hearts or our communities.
